Show Day was originally the Girls and Boys Agricultural Club which was held to acknowledge the farming background of the Collingwood region. Show Day is a chance for the school to connect with our local community and vice versa. The learning opportunity for the students are gaining confidence in the handling and care of animals through an authentic situation which in the future could led to a career for them in the farming sector.
This event happens every year around September and it’s a time when the students have the chance to show their care and handling skills of pet calves, lambs, dogs, goats and horses. This reinforces the school values of taking responsibility and striving for excellence. For children that don’t have access to farm animals there are events for pets, cooking, flowers photography and models, allowing the students to be creative and apply the value of inquiry and innovation as well as striving for excellence.
A schedule of events is published in the school Flyer 3-4 weeks’ prior to Show Day. The idea is that the students can be responsible and prepare some of the exhibits before the day and get organised. Children from the Collingwood district are more than welcome to participate and it is allowing for pre-school children up to Year 13 to participate.
On the day students entering the larger animals are expected to led their animals around an arena and they will be judged. The student’s creations are put in the designated areas in the school where they will be judged.
Show Day is advertised in the Golden Bay weekly, School Flyer and billboards in the Collingwood township. So come along with your family and enjoy the day.
